Escape from Duckov
Escape from Duckov is what was supposed to be a parody game but turned into something great. For just $18, you can pick up an almost relaxing extraction shooter. In this game, you have a top-down view of yourself, a duck, and the enemies, which are also ducks. While the premise sounds funny, the execution is surprisingly polished and mechanically sound. The choice of a top-down perspective is a stroke of genius. It moves away from the sweaty, high-tension twitch shooting of its namesakes and offers a tactical, bird’s-eye view of the battlefield.
The focus on PvE (Player vs. Environment) is where the game truly shines. By removing the toxicity often found in competitive shooters, it creates a "zen-like" gameplay loop. You spend your time outsmarting AI ducks, scavenging for gear, and navigating maps at your own pace while completing quests.
Rounding out the experience is a stunning art style. The game strikes a perfect balance between "cute" and "gritty." The environments are detailed and atmospheric, while the character models—decked out in tactical vests and tiny helmets—provide a constant sense of whimsical charm. It’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously visually, which perfectly complements the relaxing nature of the gameplay.
Ultimately, Escape from Duckov proves that you don't need hyper-realism to create a compelling extraction experience. It is a delightful, feathered twist on a hardcore genre that is well worth the entry price.
